FAQs – MATTRESSES

How long will it take to get used to my new memory foam mattress?

Some people instantly experience better sleep with a memory foam mattress. However, if this is your first experience sleeping on memory foam, it may take a few weeks to become adjusted to the support and pressure-relief. Some users have described this feeling as “floating” or “light” as you are suspended in the memory foam. Because the LuxaRest mattress will fully contour and support your body, it may be the first time your back muscles have been truly relaxed as you sleep. It may take a period of time for your body to adapt to this new experience. As you sleep on the mattress, it will respond to your body weight and temperature, conforming to your body, and feeling more “natural“. This “break in“ period usually lasts for 2 - 4 weeks. During this time, the visco-elastic memory foam cells are fully opening—so they can easily adjust to changes in temperature and weight. It’s important to note that even after your new mattress is completely broken in, it will retain the responsiveness it had straight from the factory, so it feels like new every night.

Will your memory foam mattress make me hot?

If a memory foam mattress does not have sufficient airflow or does not use open cell memory foam it can cause you to overheat as you sleep. To help prevent this, Boyd utilizes open cell memory foam technology to allow the greatest amount of airflow through the cells of memory foam. Furthermore, our exclusive STAY COOL “channel venting” technology provides air channels in your mattress to help circulate air and dissipate heat. You should not have a problem overheating at night with our memory foam mattresses.

My mattress has a slight odor. Will this go away?

Memory foam can have a slight odor after it is manufactured. This smell is normal and harmless, and it usually disappears before the product reaches you. However, if your LuxaRest memory foam mattress or mattress topper arrives and you notice this odor, know that it will dissipate within a week or two. Sometimes it’s helpful to “air out“ your mattress for a couple of days, leaving the sheets off during the day when you’re not sleeping on it.

My memory foam mattress feels softer than when I first bought it. Does this mean it is defective?

Absolutely not! Memory foam naturally undergoes an adjustment or “softening” period. Some memory cells may still be closed after the manufacturing process. Memory foam cells become fully opened and more responsive over time and continued use. This is completely normal and desirable. Don’t worry – in just a couple of weeks, the mattress will be fully adjusted, so it won’t continue to feel softer and softer. And whether your mattress is brand new or years old, you’ll get the support and pressure relief your body needs for a rejuvenating night’s sleep.

Why does my mattress feel firm and cold sometimes, and soft and responsive other times?

Visco-elastic memory foam responds to your body heat and weight. When not in contact with your body, the material returns to its original shape, which allows the memory foam mattress to feel like new every time you sleep on it. However, this also means your memory foam mattress may feel slightly firmer when you first lay down. After you have been on the mattress a while, the memory foam will once again respond to your body heat and weight and start to feel more conforming and responsive. Memory foam is also affected by the temperature of the room it is in, so if your room is very cold, the mattress can feel less responsive and slightly firmer; conversely, if your room is hot, the mattress can feel more responsive and softer. No matter how firm or soft the mattress feels, it still offers the contouring support and pressure relief that your body needs for a good night’s sleep.

My mattress looks like it is sagging. What could be causing this?

If your mattress looks like it is sagging, it is likely because the mattress is not properly supported on a flat solid surface. Memory foam conforms to whatever surface it is on. Old box springs can cause sagging, which is why we recommend that your new mattress is supported by our approved foundation, adjustable power base or platform frame. To test if your mattress is indeed experiencing a warranty issue, place it on the floor. If the sagging issue disappears, the issue is your foundation. If it remains, call 1-877-269-3987 to speak to one of our Sleep Specialists. They will discuss the problem with you and help you through the warranty process, if appropriate.

Do I need to flip my mattress?

No. The Boyd LuxaRest memory foam mattresses feature a one-sided design and should never be flipped.

FAQs – FOUNDATIONS AND FRAMES

Do I have to purchase your foundation or platform bed frame?

We highly encourage you to buy a foundation or platform frame when you buy your mattress. They provide the solid base your mattress requires to perform properly. If you choose not to purchase our foundation or platform frame, you must position the mattress on a completely flat, solid surface with adequate center support. Do not use the mattress with a conventional box spring. Please note that using the mattress without a LuxaRest foundation, platform frame, or similar firm, solid-surface, non-spring base may void the warranty.

Can I place your mattress on my existing box spring?

No, you should not place a LuxaRest memory foam mattress on a box spring, whether it is new or one you already have. As the name implies, box springs are designed to “spring“ when supporting a traditional innerspring mattress, while a memory foam mattress requires a solid base. Placing your memory foam mattress on a box spring will most likely lead to sagging, because the memory foam will conform to the surface on which it is placed. Utilizing an unapproved spring base with a LuxaRest memory foam mattress will also void the warranty.

Why can’t I just place a piece of plywood or particle board on my box spring to create a solid base?

A box spring is designed to support a traditional spring mattress, and it “gives“ or “springs”. Placing a piece of particle board or plywood over a box spring will produce an unstable surface and will void your warranty.

What is the difference between a foundation and a box spring?

Foundations look similar to a box spring. But instead of the “give“ of a box spring, foundations provide a stable, solid base for our memory foam mattresses. Because they are solidly built and flat, they allow the mattress to provide the support your body needs without sagging and will last for the life of the mattress.

Can I place your mattress in my platform bed instead of buying a foundation?

If your platform bed has a solid surface (no slats) and strong center support that can properly support the mattress, you can use it instead of a foundation. However, if the platform bed uses slats to support the mattress, we recommend that you replace this slat system with our solid Platform Bed Frame. A slat system allows the memory foam to creep and sag in between the individual rows, and may void your warranty.

How much weight will your foundation support?

Our foundations are designed to support the weight of a LuxaRest memory foam mattress plus two people resting on top. Each foundation is designed to support approximately 800 pounds of weight.

How much weight will your platform frame support?

The Boyd platform frame will support up to 3,000 lbs. It will support the weight of a LuxaRest Memory foam mattress plus two people resting on top.

FAQs – ADJUSTABLE POWER BASES

Which of your mattresses can be used with a Power Base?

All of them! Any LuxaRest memory foam mattress will fit into either our Adjustable Power Base I or Adjustable Power Base II.

Will your Power Base fit inside my bed frame?

Our adjustable power bases will fit inside most modern bed frames. However, they may not fit inside antique bed frames or other non-standard frames. We recommend you measure the inside of the bed frame and compare to the measurements of the Power Base you intend to purchase. If you have a question as to whether our power base will fit within your existing bed frame, you can contact one of our Sleep Specialists at 1-877-269-3987.

If I ever have a problem with my Power Base, what should I do?

If you are experiencing problems with your Power Base, please call a Sleep Specialist at 1-877-269-3987. They can help you find answers, whether it’s a simple question you need answered, or a more complex warranty issue. If your base needs service, one of our Sleep Specialists will arrange for on-site repair.

Does your Power Base include headboard and footboard brackets?

The Boyd Adjustable Power Base includes a set of headboard brackets. Additional footboard brackets may be purchased if needed.

What is the height of the Power Base?

The Boyd Adjustable Power Bases stand 15” from the floor, which is compatible with conventional bedding, and higher than many other adjustable beds.
